Art Therapy Services Online or In-person
When words are hard to find, art materials can be an amazing way to express, process, and de-stress. Art Therapy can provide both a cathartic release, as well as a different method to communicate feelings.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses creative art expression as a tool to enhance emotional and mental well-being. Art therapy provides a safe place to express feelings and emotions through various art materials. Depending on the individual, it can be “art as therapy”, where the art-making process is therapeutic in itself, or it can be “art psychotherapy”, where the therapist and the client work together to go deeper into possible meanings and feelings behind the art pieces created. Art therapy can be for anyone who is interested, and there is no artistic skill required.
Approach

My preferred approach includes a combination of person-centred, positive psychology, and strengths-based methods. As an Art Therapist, my role is not to interpret the art, but to help my clients process various emotions through exploration of art materials.
Experience

My primary experience in art therapy is with children in elementary schools, and with elders in care facilities. I have also worked with single mothers, adults coping with various challenges, and with newcomers to Canada.
Services

I am currently offering 45 minute sessions online, as well as in-person sessions (with Covid-19 protocols in place). In both cases, I will provide a safe space to work on the challenges you or your loved one is facing.
“Amy has worked with my step-daughter doing Art Therapy for a few years now. She is reliable, always on time, kind, caring, and a warm person. She has established a very strong bond and level of trust with my step-daughter, currently age 6, creating an environment that allows her to feel safe to talk.”
Laura, Vancouver
“Amy helped me to determine my therapy goals and then helped me reveal blocked areas that I needed to work on. I found the sessions to be enlightening and insightful. Amy is an amazing guide who through this process helped me find the clarity that I needed while working in a creative form of therapy.”
Lynette, Vancouver

“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”
